A book in the Draft state has never had its proof approved, nor has it ever been distributed. You may save information to your draft without distributing and there is no expected timeline for a draft. You may upload your details and content at your own pace.
On Step 5 Approve, you may order a Physical Proof Copy for the base cost of materials and printing + shipping. If you would rather get your book on sale without having to wait for printing and shipping a physical proof copy, approve your digital proof (shown on the “Inside” and “Cover” steps).
On Step 5 Approve, you may choose to order a Physical Proof Copy for the base price of materials and printing + shipping. This Proof Copy will be added to the shopping cart found at the top navigation of the page. Your Proof Copy order will not be made until you enter shipping and payment information.
After you have hit “Submit” on the Approval page, your Print Book status will change to “Preparing Manuscript.” This status indicates that Draft2Digital is running your book through several processes to make future content delivery as smooth as possible.
If you decide to approve your digital proof on Step 5 Approve, you will never see the status “Awaiting Author Approval” on your print book.
If you decide to order a Physical Proof Copy first, this will be your status until you have decided you are ready to proceed with Proof Approval. You can approve your digital proof at any time by selecting the “Proof Approval” option found on the Step 5: Approve page of the publishing process.
Once you have approved your Proof, you will be able to order any number of Author Copies and/or Distribute to our Print on Demand Partner Stores.
Once you are happy with your cover and interior files and have approved your proof, digital or physical, you must toggle to confirm " I am ready to Publish and Distribute my work to Online Stores." on step 5 Approve to list your book for sale.
Distribution is elective; you do not have to distribute your print book if you do not want to list your title for sale.
Your book is listed for sale! Congratulations!
This status indicates that you have chosen to rescind permission to distribute your print book and stop making new sales. Draft2Digital is hard at work flipping all the switches and requesting a delist of your work. Print Proofs and Author Copies cannot be ordered while your book is in this state.
Your book is no longer for sale through Draft2Digital.
Customers won't be able to buy new copies, but third parties may still sell used copies of your paperback on Amazon. That means your book's detail page will continue to live on Amazon's website, but your book may show as "out of stock" or only available through third-party sellers. However, customers won't be able to buy new copies (and you will not be able to earn royalties through Draft2Digital) unless you republish. Print Proofs and Author Copies cannot be ordered while your book is in this state.
