It is only after reaching a certain age that the poet understands why he or she persisted, especially those of us who had the addiction years and now decades of recovery. The writing, in some instances, was an inventory of those lives, but the result is a compelling listing of twenty-first-century observations and how this outlier recorded the best life had to offer.
