Sins of My Father

by Sherri Demont

Product Description:

When I was fifteen my father was arrested. It was three days before my sixteenth birthday. It was also the last day of my childhood. It was the day I grew up and everything changed. My father wasn't the man that I knew growing up anymore. He was reduced to what the media made of him. He wasn't my dad or my hero anymore. No one would remember that he had a kid somewhere. All they cared about is what he did. He was someone's nightmare now. He was my nightmare too. His crimes erased everything from before. They erased all the good he had done. All of the community would see that this man was able to hide his deficiencies and blend in. No one will ask what kind of dad he was or if he treated his kid well? They would just want to view him as evil. Not once would they think of me. I would be reduced to now being the girl who has no father and my father would be reduced to a meme on Facebook and a caricature in the media. He would become the articles and words in the paper. They have dehumanized him.
